Quilt Prep

Use these checklists to prepare your quilt top, backing, and batting before handing it off to be quilted.

Quilt Top

  • Trim loose threads
  • Square-up
  • Stay-stitch 1/8” around any heavily pieced edges (ex. piano key border)
  • Press
  • Remove all straight pins and save embellishments for after quilting
  • If directional, mark quilt top with a safety pin

Backing

  • Must be a minimum of 6-8” larger than width and length of the quilt top
  • Ready to use (pieced if needed)
  • Square-up
  • Press seam open and cut off any selvage in the seam
  • If directional, mark backing top with a safety pin

Batting

If providing your own batting:

  • Must be a minimum of 6-8” larger than width and length of the quilt top
  • Remove any wrinkles/creases you don’t want to see in the finished quilt
  • Do not baste to quilt top or backing

Quilt tops, backings, or batting not prepped to specifications listed above may be subject to additional service charges.

If shipping, please put projects in a water proof or plastic bag to protect from getting wet.
